چکیده

We measure the transmission of THz pulses through thin films of YBa2Cu3O7−δ at temperatures between 10 K and 300 K. The pulses possess a usable bandwidth extending from ∼0.1 – 1.5 THz (3.3 cm – 50 cm). Below Tc we observe pulse reshaping caused by the kinetic inductance of the superconducting charge carriers. From transmission data, we extract values of the London penetration depth, as a function of temperature, and find that it agrees well with a functional form (λ(0)/λ(T )) = 1 − (T/Tc), where λ(0) = 148 nm, and α = 2. Superconducting Microstrip-Fed Antenna Coupled to a Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector

A proper antenna to couple to a microstrip Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector (MKID) is designed and simulated. A twin-slot microstrip-fed inline antenna is designed for frequency band of 600-720~GHz integrated with an elliptical lens and coupled to the MKID. A systematic design procedure for design of such antenna with microstrip inline feeding is presented. Whole structure of lens and twin...

Thin-film YBa2Cu3O72x direct current SQUIDs with Josephson junctions made by direct electron beam writing

We have investigated dc superconducting quantum interference devices ~SQUIDs! with loop areas 8 and 64 mm made by direct electron beam writing in YBa2Cu3O72x films with thickness 25 and 50 nm. The SQUIDs have maximum peak-to-peak voltage modulation of about 20 mV, which corresponds to the transfer factor dV/dF0;50–60 mV/F0 at 30–40 K. By measuring the mutual inductance of the SQUID signal line ...

Superconducting Films for Absorber-Coupled MKID Detectors for Sub-Millimeter and Far-Infrared Astronomy

We describe measurements of the properties, at dc, gigahertz, and terahertz frequencies, of thin (10 nm) aluminum films with 10 normal state sheet resistance. Such films can be applied to construct microwave kinetic inductance detector arrays for submillimeter and far-infrared astronomical applications in which incident power excites quasiparticles directly in a superconducting resonator that i...

Magnetic penetration depth measurements of superconducting thin films by a microstrip resonator technique

The microstrip resonator technique is a convenient way to sensitively measure the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth, n(T), in superconducting thin films. Because the method relies on measuring the resonant frequency of a microwave transmission line resonator, one can very precisely measure small changes in A( T). This technique can resolve changes in ,4 on the order of se...

nanoSQUID operation using kinetic rather than magnetic induction

We report on a method of nanoSQUID modulation which uses kinetic inductance rather than magnetic inductance to manip-ulate the internal fluxoid state. We produced modulation using injected current rather than an applied magnetic field. Using this injected current, we were able to observe the triangle-wave shaped modulation of the device critical current which was periodic according to the Londo...
